York, Friday 10 July 2026: Full Card Tips

York on a sunny July afternoon with good-to-firm ground across seven races. The Knavesmire suits horses who want to travel and quicken, and the going today rewards those with proven form on a fast surface. William Haggas fires at 18% here over a significant sample, and James Doyle has a solid 15% strike rate at the track. Both names appear on the card and both deserve attention. Northern Express has been frustratingly consistent without winning, posting two thirds from his last five, but on a trip and going that are both proven, the figures suggest he is competing well above his handicap rating. Paul Mulrennan takes the ride for Michael Dods, a yard whose 3/42 recent record is modest but not alarming for a northern outfit that picks its spots.

The field is deep and Croupier deserves a mention at 12/1, rated second-best on Spotlight figures with a win and a second in recent form. The 57-day gap is the risk. Northern Express at 7/1 with five places on offer is the cleaner each-way proposition in a race where value is scattered across the top weights.

2:45 — William Hill Summer Stakes (Fillies’ and Mares’ Group 3, 6f)

Selection: Flora Of Bermuda at 7/2 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)

This is the race of the day in terms of pattern prestige, and Flora Of Bermuda makes strong appeal at a decent price for Group 3 level. Andrew Balding’s mare tops the Spotlight figures outright, with a win two starts back and a forgivable below-par run since that sets up a bounce-back perfectly on good-to-firm ground she handles well over six furlongs. The 20-day break is ideal, and James Doyle takes the ride. Doyle hits 15% at York and Balding’s yard is firing at 14/68 in the last fortnight, a volume sample that underlines the stable is in good order.

America Queen at 8/1 for Richard Hughes is a genuine threat. Second-best on figures, placed repeatedly, with the same trip and going ticking the boxes. Hughes posts 18% at this track with an A/E of 1.38, making his runners here value-positive in general. She is worth a small each-way interest at that price.

Flora Of Bermuda, though, is the call. Best on figures, proven conditions, forgivable run last time, strong yard and jockey combination at the track.

3:20 — Irish Thoroughbred Marketing EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (6f)

Selection: Betty Boop at 9/4 (Boyle Sports)

A nine-runner novice with plenty of unknowns, but Richard Hughes saddles Betty Boop off a single run showing a third. Hughes’ course record here is a legitimate 18% with an A/E of 1.38, meaning the yard’s runners at York genuinely outperform their odds. Richard & Peter Fahey’s Kirton Angel at 10/1 is the value alternative with Oisin Orr in the plate, and is worth including in an each-way double or a small bet at the each-way terms, given the Fahey operation has been busy and productive lately.

Without extended form data on most of these debutants or lightly-raced juveniles, trainer and jockey profile carries extra weight. Hughes at this track with a live contender at 9/4 is the most compelling angle. Gladys Pugh at 4/1 for Kevin Ryan and Kevin Stott is the alternative if you want to swerve the favourite.

3:55 — Laura Barry Memorial Handicap (1m, Handicap)

Selection: Get Outta Here at 11/4 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)

An 11-runner mile handicap and the form of Get Outta Here reads well. Runner-up last time, a win earlier in the sequence, proven over today’s trip and going, and fit from a run three weeks ago. David Menuisier’s yard is 2/15 in the last fortnight, which is a solid enough recent clip. Hector Crouch rides.

Luzon Heights at 3/1 tops the Spotlight figures and has been in the frame four times in five, so the price reflects the obvious claim. Get Outta Here at 11/4 represents a marginal value edge over the market leader, with the recent runner-up effort giving the strongest form angle. Zarvali at 13/2 for Roger Fell is a dark horse worth a look: third last time, win and second earlier in the sequence, and Fell is 3/11 in recent weeks, meaning the yard is running very hot right now.

Get Outta Here is the call on overall balance of form and each-way viability against a field where the favourite makes logical sense but the price is short for a three-year-old handicapper in a competitive race.

4:30 — Azets Handicap (1m2f, Handicap)

Selection: Great Bedwyn Each-Way at 7/1 (Boyle Sports)

Great Bedwyn tops the Spotlight figures by a clear margin in this 10-runner handicap. Two runner-up efforts from his last five starts, proven over today’s trip and going, and a 40-day absence that is not excessive for a six-year-old gelding stepping into a competitive afternoon race. Richard Hannon’s yard is 5/62 recently, ticking over without lighting up the boards, but the figures here do the talking.

Kahin at 11/4 is the market leader for William Haggas and Cieren Fallon, and Haggas at 18% with an A/E of 1.01 at York means you cannot entirely ignore it. The horse won last time out and was second before that. The catch is that Kahin rates markedly behind Great Bedwyn on Spotlight figures, suggesting the recent good form may be factored in and the market is not offering any value on the winner’s mark. Great Bedwyn at 7/1 with three places available is the each-way play.

Stoneacre Donny at 9/2 for Tim Easterby rates prominently too, a model of consistency with three thirds and two seconds. Worth including in any each-way forecast.

5:05 — William Hill Keep Your Raceday Positive Handicap (5f, Handicap)

Selection: Spring Is Sprung Each-Way at 12/1 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Tops the Spotlight figures in a 13-runner five-furlong handicap, four places paid. A win at the start of the sequence with a run of frame finishes since, most recently a third, paints the picture of a horse running consistently at a fair level. Fit from a run 20 days ago, proven trip and going, and at 12/1 with four places on offer, the each-way case is clear.

Paul Midgley’s yard is 1/12 recently, which is modest, but the figures suggest this horse is better than his handicap mark, and that is the angle. Ancient State at 6/1 won last time out but rates only mid-table on figures despite the strong recent form. Eternal Sunshine at 9/2 with Betfred was runner-up last time and the figures are competitive, but 9/2 in a 13-runner sprint handicap is not the each-way value you need. Spring Is Sprung at 12/1 is the bold call.

5:40 — William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Apprentice Handicap (1m4f, Handicap)

Selection: Nightsinwhitesatin Each-Way at 9/2 (Boyle Sports / Betfred)

Spotlight rates her the best of these on figures despite a winless run. Nothing worse than fourth in her last five starts, with a consistent run of seconds and fourths that tell you she finds a way into the frame. The 50-day absence is the obvious concern, and Edward Bethell’s yard is just 1/30 in the past fortnight, which demands caution. But the figures are the figures, and in an apprentice handicap over a trip she handles on going she handles, the market has this one right at the top of the range for value without going below 4/1.

Golden West at 9/2 Boyle Sports is the yard’s own selection per the Spotlight comment, and that improved second last time out with a speed figure to match is a credible angle for Tim Easterby, 14/100 recently for a volume stable. Humble Spark at 11/2 is solid but uninspiring. Nightsinwhitesatin on figures for each-way purposes at three places is the call, with the caveat that the yard’s recent form needs to be respected as a risk factor.
